The PsyTimer Stopwatch combines a stopwatch with an alarm clock. Thus, it may time an interval and warn when a pre-set time limit is reached at the same time.

The PsyTimer Stopwatch is carefully designed to present elapsed and remaining time as well as available options in a simple and distinct way. Prominently, a digital time display as well as an analogue clock is presented concurrently.

The PsyTimer Stopwach may be used in many different situations. The author first developed it for psychological testing, but it has found many other uses, e.g. presentations and speeches.

Features:
- Elapsed time will feature on a digital display as well as on an analogue clock. This makes it easy to collect information during testing, presentations, and other tasks that may demand most of your attention.
- All functions can be accessed easily. A big Start-Stop button can be found at the bottom of the display where it is easy to reach, even while your are attending to the task your are timing.
- It is also easy to choose among pre-set time limits on the primary stopwatch display.
- The display will not turn off while you are using the stopwatch.
- The digital display will change color when the time limit has been reached. You can also choose for a sound signal to emit at this point (optional), and the screen may flash one or more times (optional).
- A progress bar will display the elapsed time if a time limit has been chosen.
- It is possible to select among a number of sounds for the alarm signal, including short and quiet sounds as well as long, loud, and attention catching sounds.
- The main digital display may show either minutes and seconds, or the total number of seconds elapsed.
- The repeat function makes it possible to cycle an interval. A cycle count is displayed (The author uses this for a concentration test, where the assessor has to give a prompt every 20 seconds).
- Landscape mode as an option. PsyTimer will not switch to landscape view automatically when the iPhone is rotated, as this could interfere with your timing (start-stop button moving). Instead landscape view can be chosen as an option.

You will probably want to put your iPhone in "Airplane Mode" when using the stopwatch for tasks like testing and presentations in order to avoid calls, mails etc.

Pros and cons of PsyTimer Stopwatch app for iPhone and iPad

PsyTimer Stopwatch app good for

Finally a timer for psych testing that counts in seconds. Very simple to use and saves aggravation during assessments. Wish you could make the fonts bigger for the over 40 crowd.
A great app and well worth the modest fee. Much more useful than the standard iPhone Stopwatch App. It is very handy to have the Time Limits feature right on the top of the screen; no need to keep glancing at the screen to be sure to stop on time. Id give it the highest rating *****.
I use this app constantly for timing my tests and for taking data. I absolutely love it!! Thank you. Ive not once regretted buying it or felt it cost too much.
I will only give 5 stars when I can set the Time Limits to fractions of a second in addition to whole seconds, such as 8.25-second intervals, 8.50 seconds, 8.75 seconds, etc.
Feature suggestions … Countdown mode Ability to set time limits in minutes:seconds
I use this almost daily. Its the most thorough timer (hardware OR software based) Ive ever seen. So much could be said. No, I do not work for the company or know anybody there.

Some bad moments

This had been a must have app for timed psychoeducational assessments. The most recent update (1.10), however, has been frustrating. It initially crashed each time I tried to change the time limits. Reinstalling the app and making only one change then exiting worked. The current version does not disable the dim and lock screens on my iPhone 4, making it difficult to time some tests without touching the screen. These need to be fixed before I can go back and give it a 5-star rating again.
